Hello friends,
I hope you are well and managing to adjust as we all work on developing what the ‘new normal’ looks like. UW-Madison campus remains closed (currently until June 30) and leadership is continuing to assess the timing for restarting campus operations. Despite the circumstances, I want you to assure you our office and faculty are online and operating. Beyond our various Facebook events (recordings available online) and informational documents, we are running webinars, providing counsel and guidance for workers and unions around health and safety, and developing online courses for launch later this summer. This is in addition to our normal planning to host our fall programming, subject to conditions. As your department at the UW, we have the tools and resources that allow us to continue to serve and assist you, even in these difficult times.
On a bright note, I am happy to announce that on July 1, 2020 my colleague Alexia Kulwiec will take over the duties of Director of School for Workers. It has been my pleasure to serve and I look forward to continuing to work with you as a faculty member of the department. Our website will always contain the latest updates from us, and the UW-Madison site for information is here. I deeply admire and respect the spirit of resilience and adaptability that I heard from most folks I have spoken with, especially given current circumstances. We are all doing our best to figure this out as we go, and School for Workers is here and ready to lend a hand. The question we have for you is “What can we do to help?” Stay strong!
In Solidarity,
Michael Childers, Ph.D.
Professor & Director, School for Workers
