This class is intended for new or experienced labor activists interested in reviewing basic labor and employment rights on the job. We will address the rights to organize and engage in collective activity protected in the private sector by the National Labor Relations Act and in the public sector provided by the Wisconsin Peace Act, as well as review of the limitations of public sector labor law in Wisconsin.
Individual employment rights will be discussed, such as:
- Misclassification
- Discrimination and harassment
- The WARN Act
- The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
- Wage and hour laws
- Wisconsin Workers’ Compensation
- Rights of immigrants and coworkers in immigration enforcement
