Conversations That Count

Madison Labor Temple, 1602 S. Park Street
@ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free class host by the South Central Federation of Labor.

To have successful conversations about important issues, we need to learn to set aside “message delivery” and “persuasion” and adopt a “learning stance” that involves asking questions and listening.  In this workshop, we will learn an approach to conversations that can be used when:

  • Talking to members about getting involved in their union
  • Talking to non-members about joining in open shops
  • Talking to non-union workers about unionization
  • Talking to anyone about politics and the economy (including your relatives)

You will learn ways to create a dialogue, approach every conversation with curiosity, understand their point of view, explain your point of view, and work together to create a shared understanding. Our goal is not to change people’s minds – but to help them change their own minds.
